Alan Kurdi: The Syrian Boy in 'Red'

Alan Kurdi was a three year old Syrian boy, who, in 2015, made global headlines when he was found drowned in the Mediterranean Sea, and the photographer Nilüfer Demir captured and posted the picture of the boy, which was soon all over the internet.

"There was nothing left to do for him. There was nothing left to bring him back to life. I thought, this is the only way I can express the scream of his silent body.", said Nilüfer.

The photograph was not just a picture, but a scream to humanity, a cry for help, a direct implication to where the violence and hatred is leading us.

The first time I saw the picture, I was terrified, and was left with goosebumps.

I tired to recreate the original photograph of Alan Kurdi digitally, as a tribute to the sacred soul.

Reportedly, the Turkish writer and director, Omer Sarikaya is going to film a movie on the toddler. The movie is titled 'Aylan Baby (Sea of Death)', with a cast includind US action film star, Steven Seagal. The movie is being filmed in Turkey.

According to Omer, all the income that will be generated throughout, will go to humanitarian aid, and none of the actors or actresses will be paid. He hopes to sell the movie on Netflix, and feature it at several international film festivals.

However, according to the parents of the boy, they were not consulted about the film, and also, that the story of the movie is completely based on the book by Tima Kurdi.

Photograph, drawing, movie, etc.- art has always been, and will forever be the most effective way in channeling the pain and presenting it to the outside world, which, apparently and ironically, is the cause of it in the first place.
