Easy E-commerce Product Photography tutorial for beginners

Product Photography for E-commerce involves photography of the product in presence of various lights or other suitable environment, to show-off and finally achieve the finest imagery possible. Though it has to be kept in mind that showing better doesn't mean that the photographs fall short of the actual colors and the actual quality of the product.

Being a novice, here's my another hands-on attempt at studio photography. (This post is also the second part to the series: Tutorial for Product Photography like a Pro: Easy DIY)

  • This photograph is a product of two-light photography in the studio. Though, those two lights required a lot of positioning and re-positioning, since this is a metal object, and hence has luster, it was, most of the times, reflecting back a lot of light. Apart from positioning, I had controlled the amount of light by placing a butter-paper sheet (a translucent, white sheet of paper) in front of one of the lights.

  • Though in the next one, the composition and the frame looks aesthetic, the picture is damaged: mainly because of the lighting and the shadows. If you'll notice, you will see that all the shadows are going upwards, which is naturally not the case. To some of you it may even look like that the photography is placed upside down, and that is why in this photograph, I fail to deliver the actual message, and this is the fault here.

  • This one's a product-only shoot, that is, sans anything complementing the product or the environment: it's just the product and the background. Now, in such type of shoots, product is generally shot on a white background, but since, in this case the product is a oxidized-jewelry, I thought shooting it on  black background made more sense, hence this.

  • Two big jhumkas, two pine cones and a dried, cropped leaf- initially, I thought this frame wasn't a faulty one, until I noticed that I had subconsciously cropped the loop or the hook (whatever it is called) of the left jhumka. Turns out, a lot of work needs to be done on this genre.
